  • Product Design @ Clay

The role addresses a core problem: insufficient design thinking in software development tools, leaving teams stuck in monotonous cycles with lots of manual work.

    Key Questions the Team Explores:

  • How to deliver maximum customer value while impacting business growth
  • Designing flexible architecture scaling across required features
  • Supporting both manual configuration and automated workflows simultaneously
  • Onboarding users by use case while introducing advanced capabilities progressively
  • Creating non-developer-friendly abstractions and interfaces
  • Visualizing parallel versus sequential workflow actions
  • Enabling seamless navigation across product sections
  • Responsibilities

Design & Ship Core Features - Design and maintain core features and infrastructure with significant responsibility across the entire product.

Collaborate & Learn - Partner with team members, communicate openly, exchange thoughtful feedback, and learn from subject matter experts.

Take Ownership - Work in high-trust, ownership focused environment where team members define priorities and drive initiatives forward.

User Research & Roadmap - Set up, run, and synthesize user research studies to inform use cases and prioritization decisions.

Design & Prototype - Develop novel interfaces making software building more intuitive, including lightweight prototypes exploring innovative interaction patterns.

    Required Qualifications

Clear Design Process - Identify right problems, consider multiple solutions, articulate tradeoffs intelligently, and develop processes serving shared higher-level goals.

Communication & Collaboration - Communicate at different abstraction levels with visual, verbal, and written skills; comfortable with synchronous and asynchronous communication.

Systems Thinking - Break down complex problems into simple interfaces; identify repeating patterns across products; abstract into common interactions.

Pixel-Perfect Design - Iteratively refine until designs feel right; inspire engineering partners toward equivalent care standards.

Interaction-Focused Design - Understand software as responsive systems evolving over time, not static screen sets; deeply grasp design nuances for interactive mediums.

Customer-Focused Approach - Continuously empathize with customers and validate delivery of intuitive value.

Experience: 8+ years in relevant roles required.

    Compensation & Location

    Salary: $160,000 - $250,000 annually

    Equity: Offered

Location: New York, NY (hybrid; 3+ days/week in office expected)

Work Authorization: Open to US-based candidates; remote work available

    Employment Type: Full-time
