About the Role

This senior individual contributor position partners directly with a Product Manager on Synthesia's growth engine. The designer will influence how users experience Synthesia for the first time, focusing on two core metrics: activation (users developing habitual use) and longer-term retention (embedding into daily workflows).

Key problem areas include reducing cognitive overload during onboarding and designing around AI latency and uncertainty states inherent in generative systems. The role emphasizes moving from concept to functional prototype quickly, with responsibility for elevating AI or PM-generated prototypes into scalable, thoughtfully designed experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Reimagining onboarding and early editor workflows
  • Translating ambiguous challenges into concepts, flows, and prototypes
  • Partnering with Product and Engineering to move core growth metrics
  • Challenging assumptions and existing interaction patterns
  • Designing experiments that facilitate rapid learning
  • Contributing to critique culture across the Growth team
  • Coaching and mentoring designers
  • Required Qualifications

  • High-level scope and autonomy, influencing product direction beyond surface-level design decisions
  • Metrics-focused thinking rather than artifact-focused approaches
  • Comfort with accountability in self-serve business models
  • Thriving in experimental environments where many ideas are discarded and speed matters
  • Ability to work in AI-native workflows where PMs and engineers prototype alongside you
