Design Engineer @ Replit

Location: Foster City, CA (Hybrid) - In office Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Role Overview

This position bridges design and engineering, focusing on implementing design systems, architecting frontend solutions, and ensuring seamless user experiences across the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement complex UI components balancing aesthetics with technical performance
  • Lead technical implementation of the design system (Replit UI)
  • Create prototypes to explore interaction models and validate design concepts
  • Collaborate with product designers for pixel-perfect implementation
  • Establish best practices for frontend development and component architecture
  • Mentor engineers on design principles and implementation techniques
  • Develop tools to improve design-to-development workflows
  • Contribute to design reviews with focus on technical feasibility
  • Champion accessible, responsive, and performant user interfaces

    • Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years frontend development experience with strong design sensibility
  • Expert-level HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript knowledge
  • Deep experience with modern frontend frameworks (React preferred)
  • Strong understanding of design systems and component-based architecture
  • Experience implementing complex UI animations and interactions
  • Proven ability to translate design concepts into production-ready code
  • Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Experience with accessibility standards and best practices

    • Bonus Qualifications

  • Active Replit user passionate about accessible software creation
  • Design tools or developer tools experience
  • AI background or interest
  • Open-source design system or UI library contributions

    • Compensation

    $180,000 – $290,000 annually with equity
